Are you coachable?
I found out last week that my sister in law has lung cancer. My sister called, she was crying that at times I could not understand what she was saying. I listened with compassion, to the best of my ability mirroring what I heard. She told me that Amanda was besides herself.
I don’t usually call my niece. As I asked my heart/ intuition what I heard was to reach out to her. She is a college professor and a life coach, so I was not sure what I could offer. I called.
What I heard was her sobbing deeply, again I could barely make out what she was saying. the question I asked her was “are you coachable”? She responded with a yes.
I invited her to imagine she could breathe in and out of her heart. Slower than normal, deeper than normal. I told her we would do this for 2 minutes. Then I invited her to activate a feeling of compassion. I told her we would sit with this for 5 minutes. We breathed together, and both activated this frequency of compassion.
I asked her what she now noticed in her body/mind/emotions. She was so calm. I could truly feel it on the other end of the phone. I invited her to ask her heart for guidance. (cortical facilitation)
She said “Aunt Deb, I know all of this stuff, and yet I am not practicing it now”. I told her when we go into shock like she is, we forget. Our brains/bodies go into survival mode, the higher centers of the brain shut down, we don’t think well in this state!!! (cortical inhibition)
As she listened to her heart’s guidance she found her answers! Yes, it will be ups and downs as she faces the possibility of losing her mom before she is ready to. They are friends to each other.
I truly hope she knows I am here for her on this journey into the depths of our hearts and letting go.
