Are you in Pain?
I have been a bodyworker for almost 30 years, a trainer/coach with Institute of HeartMath for 10 years. When people seek me out they are in pain,(emotional, physical, mental)
The body’s language is sensation, so when we feel this in our bodies we are listening to their way of speaking to us. I love the acronym :
Pain: pay – attention – inside – now!
So first describe the sensation, is it hot, pulling, sharp, tingling? You get the idea. Then begin to drop into that sensation, getting curious about it. Perhaps what size it is? Does it have a color? Does it have a shape? If I could imagine it had eyes, what kind of eyes would they be? Does it have a sound? If it could speak to me what would it say? This helps you truly get into that space and have a relationship with it. This is a form of mindfulness.
In our society we see pain as bad, something to be gotten rid of, when in fact it is just the intelligence of our Being asking us to listen.
Now sometimes it truly is physical pain, like when I sprained my ankle, or fell down the stairs. Then it maybe a torn ligament, tendon etc. Even under this, there is a message for me, perhaps on what it needs to heal, or a change I need to make in some area of my life. This is the wisdom of the body!
Sometimes I have worked with people in physical pain/sensations and it was truly an emotional issues that now was manifesting in the body as pain to get them to “pay attention inside now”.
It is a true joy to listen in and learn.
