Protecting our children from Predator phishing possibly for sex trafficking!
How do predators access our children? What are their motives to continue to call a child’s phone?
The other day my daughter told me her youngest child’s phone was ringing. My granddaughter can’t take her phone to school. So, my daughter answered.
As she told me the story, my own emotions began to swirl.
The guy spoke with southern accent, and just began talking. My daughter told him he must have wrong number. Now the mistake she made was to tell him that this was child’s phone.
He called again. Again she repeated herself and asked what number are you calling?
He called again. This time she got angry with him and yelled. He hung up.
After listening to a colleague who works with stopping sex trafficking, a flag went off in me.
I strongly suggested to her that she go to the police and give them that number. I explained to her this is one way they find children to engage.
I strongly encouraged her to tell all her children if an unknown number comes up…don’t answer! If they truly are looking for you they will leave a voicemail.
This colleague also said, if you have a motel in your city, good chance there are sex-traffickers around. Made me pause.
This made me take notice….let’s protect our children from these dangers.
Let me know what you think.
