Recent Gallop Pole Studies show…..
There are a few studies out there from Gallop pole this year and last. For example, even though reportedly the economy is growing, more Americans were stressed, angry and worried than ever before. 45% said they were worried, 22% felt angry a lot.
In fact, the 55% of Americans who report being more stressed was one of the highest rates out of the 143 countries studied!
What I found fascinating was that it is the younger Americans between the ages of 15 and 49 that are the most stressed, worried and angry. Roughly two in three of these younger than 50 people said they experienced stress a lot, almost half said they felt worried a lot and one in four said they felt more anger.
The disconnect between a strong economy and Americans’ increasing negative emotions illustrates how GDP and other hard economic data only tell part of the story. In fact, the levels of negative emotions in the past several years are even higher than during the U.S. recession years. Given the ties that researchers are starting to find between negative affects like these and physical health and longevity, leaders need the whole story.
For me personally I too have experienced more worry and frustration as I watch what is happening around the world, in my families lives, and in the lives of my clients. I actually have to practice what I teach many times a day to have a different baseline
This is a huge collective wave of fear that we all at some level are generating. AS I have been in the field of stress management, well-being and body/heart centered work for 30 years, I realize how important it is to manage my own energy/emotions.
In learning how to up regulate more renewing and regenerating emotions as soon as I am aware of the draining survival ones I am in , I have found greater ease and flow. Once I shift my own physiology I have greater insights into what is needed in that moment.
I believe if we all take more responsibility for our thoughts and emotions, choosing ones that increase your own vitality, recharge your inner battery, bringing the PFC back online, we will find we can truly co-create a world that works for us all!!!
Wouldn’t it be more pleasant to live in a world that values peace, harmony and love above all else? What if we could have more compassion for each other? What if we could actually cut someone some slack, knowing they are doing the best they can in that moment? Notice what happens in your body as you do that!
