Understanding what happens when we are experiencing stress?
Once again in understand the physiology of stress and it’s impact in our own systems and how it influences those around us is of vital importance at this time. We work in communities, we live in communities and we live in families. I found the more aware I am, impacts my choices!
Here is an image I use when I am coaching someone or training a group that helps people understand.
This is an image of Heart rhythm patterns. It is what happens in our hearts based on various emotions! They are the same person, hooked up to an emwave (biofeedback), so we could see in real time what happens.
The first image in red is one that the person was asked to recall a time when they felt frustrated. Just thinking about it produced 1400 biochemical changes in his body, which will eventually drain his energy. It shows that when we are in this state, we have cortical inhibition, can’t think clearly. How many times in the day are we asked to make decisions when we are frustrated, angry, worried? In these states we can’t have access to our higher brain centers. Our amygdala is being hijacked!!!
The second image in blue, is the same person, only this time invited to recall a time when they felt appreciation, care, kindness. Notice the difference in the lines? Smoother in the peaks and valleys. And if you stretched these lines out, the top one would use more ink. In the body this would mean more energy being consumed. Once again 1400 biochemical changes taking place, only these would nourish and replenish you. Cortical facilitation takes place, we have access to higher brain states.
Now think about how you are in meetings? Bored, judgmental, distracted, angry, frustrated, worried, etc? This energy of our emotions is being transmitted to others. We are influencing each other all of the time. Our hearts field radiates out 3-15 feet. This has been researched and proven. So in essence we are connected to each other, sensing each other unconsciously.
Here is the cool part. When we can shift our own emotional states, getting coherent which means aligned mind/heart/body/spirit, we can shift those around us.
Can you imagine a workplace, a family, a country, political leaders learning this skill to access a state of being ? What difference could you imagine in their conversations? negotiations? dialogues? meetings?
